'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor explained items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
