Power facilities under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have come under escalating attacks in recent weeks

Throughout the evening, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were wounded while local people in eastern neighborhoods were plunged into darkness and faced disruption to drinking water, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a minor was lost their life in a different Russian drone strike in the southeastern region in the southeastern part, based on information from local officials.

Moscow has increased attacks on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "substantial measures" from allies to exert influence on Moscow.

"What's needed is not window dressing but firm measures - from the US, the EU and the Group of Seven - in providing protection systems and enforcing penalties," mentioned in a public message.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 missiles attacked the country's power systems, describing such attacks as "strategic and deliberate" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as the weather cools.

The energy minister said Russia was "conducting extensive attacks" and repair crews were laboring to repair systems.

A wave of strikes damaged energy infrastructure and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Several of the people wounded in the attacks on the capital have been taken to hospital, per statements from local officials.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region endured intense attacks throughout the evening. A minor was killed and three other people were wounded.

The assaults follow nights of aerial attacks in the area, portions of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

The whole nation is on alert for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to detect.

Government officials told reporters that Russia was purposely seeking to destroy the national power system, with assaults already disrupting fuel infrastructure.

He said technical personnel and government agencies were anticipating additional strikes.
